Fact of the day

Today in 1762 Spencer Perceval was born. British Prime Minister from 1809, he passed a series of laws against the Luddites, making the destruction of machines a capital offence. However, it was in 1812 that Perceval was to really make history when he became the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated (so far) when he was shot by failed businessman John Bellingham as he entered the lobby of the House of Commons.
