Ex gays?

From a column by Ryan Zempel:

A 52-minute documentary, "I Do Exist" utilizes the stories of those five ex-gays to demonstrate that change is possible for those with same-sex attractions.

I imagine change is possible, for at least some whose "attraction" is not too strong. My hunch is there's a continuum of sexual behavior. On one end we have those who are so thoroughly heterosexual the thought of having sex with the same sex is revolting. On the other end, we have those who find the thought of sex with the opposite sex revolting. Bisexuals are in the middle, and can "go either way".

Somewhere in that range, there are bound to be people who, although they prefer one sex, can restrict themselves to the other and live perfectly contented lives.

I don't think it helps when one side of the debate insists change is possible for all, or when the other side insists change is possible for none.

The question that needs to be honestly addressed is whether any change in sexual preference is desirable, and if so, how much work is it worth to make that change?
