This has already featured in a story in Analog. A woman with ALS programs her avatar to handle routine tasks for her, and respond to input as if it were the woman. That way, she need only focus her limited energy on things that needed her personal touch. Eventually, it became impossible to distinguish between the avatar and the woman.
