Cross baiting?

People who warned of a move toward communism or anti-Americanism in social trends used to be accused of "red baiting". The notion that the US was in danger of wandering off into a communist system was considered absurd, and anyone who drew comparisons between communist policies and social or legislative trends was considered to be over-reacting, if not hysterical.

If we were to replace "communist" with "theocracy" in this article, and swap "left" and "right", would there be any real difference between this article and the worst rants of the John Birch Society?

If the one is "red baiting", is the other "cross baiting"?

Just asking.

Update: Stanley Kurtz also has the fear of a theocracy may be a wee bit overblown.
